Lucie Bateman-White for FREAP

I'm always seeking inspiration from others for my style. It's so important to get different perspectives on what's trending, and how to wear certain pieces. For example, I've really never been one for dresses or skirts, but seeing what styles people are wearing has helped me find what style of dress I think I'd like. I'd still choose trousers over a skirt any day, but it's always good to escape your comfort zone! Today, we're doing just that. We have Bournemouth University student, fellow fashion lover, and one of my closest friends, Lucie Bateman-White here to answer 10 questions about her own style, current trends, and dream purchases.

1. How would you describe your style?

I am terrible at describing myself/ talking about myself in general so I asked my mum what she considered my style to be instead and her answer was “Young, trendy and up-to-date. You’ve got a constant eye on fashion and trends, and love experimenting with designs, lengths and patterns” I have recently started taking inspiration from a lot of Scandinavian influencers, so I would say I beginning to incorporate this style into my wardrobe a lot more as well.

2. Sneakers or heels?

Sneakers, although, I would usually call them trainers! There is a time and place for heels, but I prefer to keep them for dressier occasions.

3. Favourite 3 pieces in your wardrobe right now

These jeans are a dream! The denim is quite stretchy so they are super comfy, and very forgiving after a big meal. I often struggle to find jeans which fit me well due to my height, so you can imagine my excitement when I came across these in the petite section.

I am obsessed with this top! It is such a flattering shape and pairs well with almost everything I own.

One of my most recent purchases and I already love it so much.

4. Go to outfit for a night out at uni

In the last year and since working in London, I would say my style has changed a lot and so what I would wear on a night out at uni might be different now. However, based off my previous 2 years, I would usually alternate between black flares, black jeans or a denim skirt, paired with a cute crop top. Comfort is key for me on a night out!!

5. Favourite place to shop

My go to place to shop will always be ASOS. I love the variety of brands and styles they stock. Recently, I have been shopping at Topshop a lot more as well.

6. Favourite part about getting ready

Applying my make-up! I find doing my makeup very therapeutic, but also just love to way it makes me look and feel. Listening to my getting ready playlist is a very close second though.

7. If we saw you on a regular day, what would you most likely be wearing?

During the summer, I’m almost always wearing a midi skirt or dress. My skirts are quite bold, so I usually pair these with a plain bodysuit and white Nike Air Force 1s. To finish the look, I’ll put on my day-to-day jewellery pieces and a pair of sunglasses.

8. What’s your dream purchase?

A Saint Laurent Sunset Leather Cross-Body Bag. It is such a timeless and sophisticated piece, I would love to add it to my wardrobe one day.

9. Has your style changed at all since coming to uni and/or working in London?

I believe my style did change when I came to uni, because I was being influenced by so many different styles of those around me. I started experimenting with a variety of trends.

However, since working in London, I would say my style has changed again! Whilst at uni, my student budget meant I would buy majority of my clothing from retailers such as PrettyLittleThing and Boohoo because it was cheap. These pieces would be for nights out instead of day-to-day wear most of the time. As I began earning more money, I subsequently started purchasing more high quality pieces which cost me more but I knew I would get more than just one wear out of them. As I was working in London and going out less, I began buying more sophisticated pieces which would be suitable for work, but I could also wear if I was going to a bar with friends.

10. What single piece of clothing or accessory best describes you?

This was a tough one! I would have to say leopard print faux fur jacket, it is one of my favourite ever purchases. I am quite a shy person when first introduced to new people and I also have a very sensitive soul in general, so the soft fur would relate to this. However, the bold and striking leopard print pattern represents who I am with my friends and family which is my true personality. Lastly, let’s not forget I am Leo so it’s only right I pick my leopard jacket!!!

I hope you enjoyed reading! Personally, I'm a huge fan of Lucie's style and she has been a huge influence in how my style has developed over the years. Girly with an edgy twist, she definitely kills it every time.
