Believe it or not, summer is not my strong-suit when it comes to dressing. As much as I love swimwear and cover-ups for lounging in the sun, that's about as far as my liking goes for the old summer wardrobe. Seeing as I spend my summers in suburban New Jersey where it hardly ever goes below 90°F (32°C) in the summer, I have no choice but the make my clothing pretty light and minimal. I'm not a dress or skirt person, and hardly ever wear shorts; so the three most popular summer clothing items are already not my style! On top of that, when it comes to styling an outfit, I really thrive with layering as it enables you to experiment with multiple pieces and patterns at once - but you can't exactly wear multiple layers when it's scorching hot. Jeans, sweatpants, and sweaters are all my favorite types of clothing, hence why my favorite seasons are fall & winter (this is why I want to move to Copenhagen because it's perfect weather for fall & winter style all year round!!! Also because the fashion there is flawless but I digress.)
That all being said, I've really had no choice but to build up a summer wardrobe. It's taken a bit of time but I am actually really in love with it. Today I'm sharing my favorite 6 pieces with you:
I am obsessed with these trousers. They are hands down the best summer purchase I've ever made. I wear them everyday to the pool, I just throw them on over my swim suit and done. They're so light and comfy, and also perfect for when it gets cooler in the evenings or just when you want to cover up a bit more. I've received so many compliments on these trousers and they make me feel so good every time I wear them!

A stunner of a top, no question. I have it in coral and black, which I love because when I wear the coral, I like to make it the main focal point of the outfit & make the outfit more playful because it's such a fun color. Conversely, when I wear the black, I can make the outfit more chic and blend it into the rest of the outfit, making it a seamless all black outfit perfect for a dressier occasion. I also love these tops because you can throw a long or short sleeve t-shirt under them and wear them in the cooler seasons as well! Multi-purpose as its finest.

I had to sneak in a jumper. However, I do wear this quite a bit in the summer when it gets cooler in the evenings - and as it's white it doesn't make you boiling hot while wearing it! I love the retro style of this jumper, it's so versatile: you could wear it with shorts, jeans, sweatpants, over a dress, with a skirt; the list just goes on. Lately I've been wearing it with either a light pair of trousers when I go out (like the black ones I'm wearing above with the coral top) or with little pyjama shorts for lounging round the house.
It doesn't get more simple than a black ribbed tank! This one really speaks for itself - you can dress it up or down, wear it under a jacket or on its own. These style of tanks are so in at the moment as well, so I had to pick one up. I just wish I got it in more colors!
These are the softest, comfiest leggings I've ever worn. I have 6 pairs (3 black and 3 navy blue). I wear them everyday to workout and believe me when I say I get excited about putting them on everyday. They're the perfect workout legging as they're so light and flexible, but they could easily double as pyjama bottoms or just loungewear. They feel like butter, I don't think I'll ever buy a different pair of leggings as long as I live. Amazing quality, a very good product (AND they're only from Amazon!)

6. ASOS DESIGN - Straight Leg Jogger These are the first straight leg sweats I've ever purchased, but let me tell you I'm glad I did. They're so light, so even though they're sweatpants you could easily wear them in the summer as they're not bulky at all. Lately I've been pairing them with the Zara black tank I mentioned above, but these would also look good with a baggy t-shirt, or a dressier top and a pair of heels or boots even if you wanted to dress them up more (imagine them with a leather jacket - ugh). The straight leg style gives them a much chicer & dressier feel than normal cuffed sweats, so it actually makes people think you put more effort in that you actually did which I love! Even though they're only sweatpants, they're so versatile, so it's definitely a yes from me.
Hope you enjoyed reading! I've loved putting my summer wardrobe together and it's definitely made summer clothes grow on me (however nothing will ever compare to my jackets and jeans). A lot of these pieces work in multiple seasons so I will be taking them with me into autumn which I cannot wait for! What are your favorite summer clothing items this year?
